Goalkeeper Training Surrey

Underarm throws - This is a basic technique that even professionals get wrong – the reason being that because it is basic youngsters want to move on as fast as possible to more advanced techniques, without mastering this first. Also because it seems so easy, young keepers don’t concentrate while using it, giving away possession too easily.

So take the time to get this right, fun games with targets will help too.

KEY POINTS

 Note – don’t stay upright when throwing, as you will not get any power or accuracy

 Start in the Starting Position

 Take a big step in the intended direction

 Your back knee will go down to the ground

 Bring your arm down, and let go of the ball when it is level with your foot (it you let go too early it will bounce, too late and it will go up in the air, easy for an opponent to get it)

 Cup the ball between the tips of your fingers and your forearm, for maximum control when releasing the ball

 Point where you want it to go

 Keep the movement smooth – all one movement with no pauses
